Kursk NPP produced more than 29 billion kWh of electricity in 2014

In 2014, the Kursk nuclear power plant produced more than 29 billion kWh of electricity, according to a statement made by the information support management of Kursk region's Information and Press Committee.

The NPP achieved a historic high of the total annual electricity output owing to the smooth operation of power units as a result of a proper repair campaign in 2014 and a technical program to improve energy efficiency.

The Kursk nuclear power plant is operating as a branch of Rosenergoatom. The NPP is located in Kursk region 4 km away from Kurchatov city, 40 km away from Kursk. The NPP uses water-cooled graphite-moderated channel-type reactors, their combined installed capacity is 4,000 MW. The Kursk NPP accounts for more than 50% of the total installed capacity of all the power stations in the Black Earth Belt. The power plant supplies electricity to most of Kursk region's industrial enterprises.

The core business of Rosenergoatom (REA, tax number: 7721632827) is the generation of electricity using its nuclear power plants. The concern unites all ten nuclear power plants of Russia operating as its branches, along with the generating company's service entities.

In total, 33 power units are in operation at Russia's nuclear power plants: 17 power units of the VVER type (water-water power reactors), 15 power units with channel-type reactors, 1 sodium cooled fast reactor-based power unit (BN-600). The nuclear power plants account for ca. 17% of the total electricity output in Russia.
