External turnover of Kursk region with Poland reached $9 million in 2011

Today, the Embassy of Poland hosted a meeting of a delegation of Kursk region’s Government with representatives of the Polish business. Irina Taratina, first deputy head of the Economy and Development Committee of Kursk region, presented the economic and investment potential of the region.

According to I. Taratina's statement for AK&M, the main objective of the presentation was to tell the Polish businessmen about the production and economic capacities of the region, its historical and cultural potential. “The Government of Kursk region is interested in setting up modern enterprises with innovative technologies and state-of-the-art technical facilities. This would boost our economy, ensure the growth of the GDP and thereby raise the average salaries in the region. This is what makes establishing business contacts during such meetings important. We look forward to investors and new enterprises in the region, particularly in the processing sector, we are eager to develop the local travel industry. We guarantee stability of investments for both foreign and domestic investors,” I. Taratina emphasized.

The geography of Kursk region’s foreign trade activities covers almost all FSU countries and more than 60 countries the world over. External turnover of Kursk region grew 1.6-fodl to $2.158 billion in 2011. Export deliveries account for 60%, import deliveries for 40% of the turnover.

In 2011, external turnover with Poland reached $9 million (exports $4.8 million, imports $4.2 million). Kursk region imported glass and glass items, goods of the chemical, pulp and paper industry, vegetables and fruit from Poland. Iron-ore pellets account for 70% of the total volume exported by Kursk region. The cooperation between the countries can still be further developed. Enterprises of Kursk region are ready to deliver prospecting and oilfield equipment, radio-measuring and low-voltage devices, computing facilities, medical equipment and pharmaceuticals to the international market.

The representatives of the enterprises and private entrepreneurs of Kursk region told their Polish colleagues about their vision of possible cooperation.

The Government of Kursk region invited representatives of the Polish business to the 1st Mid-Russian Economic Forum which will coincide with Kursk Korensk Trade Fair. The forum scheduled for June 15-16, 2012 is organized by the Government of Kursk region and AK&M News Agency.
