President of CCI Russia Sergey Katyrin to speak at plenary session of Mid-Russian Economic Forum

Sergey Katyrin, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia, will speak at the plenary session of the Mid-Russian Economic Forum scheduled for June 15 and 16 in Kursk.

The plenary session will address development features and economic advantages of Russia’s Mid-Russian macroregion, economic and investment reforms of recent years, social and economic development of Mid-Russian cities and how investments can contribute to it, encouraging SME’s business activities and other matters.

Sergey Nikolaevich Katyrin was born in Moscow on October 2, 1954. He graduated from the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction Institute and the International Business School of the Russian Foreign Ministry Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).

Since 1979 S. Katyrin held positions at the Komsomol Young Communist League Committee of the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction Institute and later on at the Komsomol Moscow City Committee.

S. Katyrin took active part in the establishment and development of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia, which held its founding Congress on October 19, 1991. In 1991-1992 he was the main department Head, since 1992 – the Vice-President, a member of the Board of the CCI of Russia.

S. Katyrin was elected as the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation at the Chamber’s 6-th Congress in March 2011.

An important area of the activity of S. Katyrin in the capacity of the President of the CCI of Russia is the coordination of the Russian system of chambers of commerce and industry, which incorporates territorial chambers of commerce and industry, associations and business unions, and the promotion of interaction with legislative and executive authorities of the country and regions.

S. Katyrin represents the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia at large public business unions and is a member of their ruling bodies. He is a member of the Commission for the Development of Small and Medium Business under the Russian government, the Public Council for the Development of Small and Medium Business under the Chairman of the Russian Federal Assembly Federation Council and a number of other public and advisory bodies.

He simultaneously carries out the international activity of the CCI of Russia in the capacity of the First Deputy Chairman of the Russian National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation and a member of the Council of Heads of CCI of CIS Member States.

In 2006-2012 S. Katyrin was a Deputy Secretary of the Russian Public Chamber.

He is a holder of the Merit Order of the 4th Degree, the Friendship Order, the Medal for Labor Valor and a number of other state and public awards.
